Deccan Odyssey - 7 NIGHTS / 8 DAYS
Day 1: Arrival in Mumbai
After arriving in Mumbai, gather at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. Guests enjoy a traditional welcome with tikka and garland. After completing the check-in formalities, get on-board and settle in your cabin. Relish your welcome drink. The train starts its journey for the first destination. You can spend the free hours in exploring the Deccan Odyssey train, filled with world-class facilities.
Day 02: Aurangabad (Ellora Caves)
On the 2nd day of the tour, the train enters Aurangabad. After breakfast on-board, de-board the train for visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ellora Caves. These rock-cut caves dedicated to Buddhism, Hinduism and Jainism were carved between the 5th and the 10th centuries. There are a total of 34 caves. Visit to the Ellora Caves is followed by a visit to the Bibi-Ka-Maqbara. Popular as a replica of the Taj Mahal, this monument was erected in the 17th century by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in the memory his first wife, Dilras Banu Begum. Dinner and overnight stay aboard.
Day 03: Tadoba Tiger Reserve
The third day of the journey is for wildlife viewing at the Tadoba Tiger Reserve, also known as ‘The Jewel of Vidharba’. During morning and afternoon safaris, you can spot a vast variety of flora and fauna species including panthers, tigers, jackals, sloth bears, hyenas, barking dear, bison, wild dogs, sambhars, nilgai, cheatal, jaumn, Salari, Mahua, Dhaoda, Flying Squirrel, Indian Bison and more. Dinner and overnight on-board the Deccan Odyssey.
Day 04: Ajanta Caves
On day 4, the train reaches Jalgaon railway station. After having breakfast aboard, get down the train for driving up to UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Ajanta Caves, a World Heritage site. Carved between the 2nd century BCE to about 480 or 650 CE, these rock-cut caves contain sculptures and murals depicting the life and times of Lord Buddha. Around 30 in number, these caves are a specimen of Indian artistry. Go on-board the train for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 05: Nashik
On the 5th day, the train arrives in Nashik, known as the ‘Vineyard of India’. After breakfast, detrain to partake in Champagne tour, which is followed by lunch. Create some great memories. Dinner and overnight stay on-board.
Day 06: Kolhapur
Today, the train enters Kolhapur, an important historical city of India. Post breakfast, detrain to indulge in a city tour including the main tourist attractions. The list includes the New Palace or the Maharaja’s New Palace, erected way back in 1884, the Mahalaxmi Temple-one among the Shaktipeeths, this temple is dedicated to Shri Mahalaxmi or Ambabai and lastly the Town Hall museum-containing old paintings, coins, sculpture, weapons and more. The evening is scheduled for attending a performance of ‘Mardani Khel’, a traditional martial. Return to the train for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 07: Goa
On day 7, the train enters the beach state of Goa, known for its churches, beaches and much more. After relishing sumptuous breakfast on-board the Deccan Odyssey, de-board to partake in sightseeing. You visit Old Goa attractions including the Basilica of Bom Jesus and the St. Augustine Church. Later, indulge in a leisure walk through the old Latin Quarters, also known as Fontanhas. Back on-board for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 08: Mumbai Departure
Today is the last day when the train is back in Mumbai. Have your last kingly breakfast of the Maharashtra Splendor journey in-board the luxury Deccan Odyssey train. After completing the check-out formalities, detrain.
